Employees at a north Seattle minimart noticed a 16-year-old boy stealing multiple boxes of condoms. It probably wasn’t the first time they’d seen the same crime, and it probably won’t be the last. The store manager followed the thief outside to confront him—but instead found himself staring down the barrel of a gun held by the thief’s accomplice.

The condom thief and accomplice drove off, so the store manager called 911 and described their vehicle. Detective Eric Muñoz said around 10 PM, “Officers arrived and quickly broadcast a description of the suspects and their vehicle.” Seattle police immediately located the car and pulled it over.

The driver threw the car in reverse and rammed the police cruiser. Then the condom thieves sped away.

The late-night condom theft devolves into a high-speed car chase date

Seattle police weren’t playing around. They pushed the speeding car off the road with a PIT maneuver. Inside, they found six people and a loaded shotgun that had been reported stolen in Snohomish County.

Three female suspects were detained but released the same night. Three male suspects were booked under investigation of armed condom robbery, two for possession of a stolen firearm. The police report says, “All three repeatedly kicked their doors, called law officers names, and screamed for sustained periods of time. They were also heard at the scene bragging about ‘being out tomorrow.’”

It’s worth noting that Planned Parenthood and many community health centers offer free condoms. Safe sex is great, but dragging your date along on a high-speed police chase over condoms kind of defeats the point. Hopefully the next time these gentlemen have a triple date, they just take the girls out dancing.
