Colorado Diesel Mixup Expands to 46 Gas Stations, 600+ Drivers
Gas station mix-ups happen from time to time. A tanker accidentally delivers diesel into underground tanks meant for gasoline. But the emerging fiasco in Colorado may be one of the largest on record.
We previously reportedthat the issue affected 13 gas stations and roughly 200 vehicles. In just two days, those numbers ballooned. More than 600 drivers fueled up at 46 stations across the state.
Colorado officials say Sinclair has removed all gasoline contaminated with diesel from affected stations. However, drivers experiencing mechanical issues should check whether they filled up at one of the affected locations.

The state recommends two immediate steps for affected drivers. First, contact the gas station where you filled up. Second, file a report with Colorado OPS so officials can track the scope of the damage.
Cher Haavind, deputy executive director of the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, stressed the importance of reporting. “It is very important that consumers do report that to us. That is our master record that we are using to make contact with the owners.”
OPS is also working to ensure drivers are reimbursed. Officials say any stations that purchased fuel from Sinclair must cover customer expenses, including engine repairs. “That’s our priority within the division right now,” OPS said, “making sure that those smaller owners are aware they do have an obligation to receive the complaint and that is what triggers our team to work with that owner on ensuring those consumers are made whole.”
