The image is shocking: A man sits on his couch during an interview with the nightly news. His left arm is gone below the elbow. A crash with a semi truck amputated it. Carlos Campos claimed the truck “swerved into him.” Texas authorities then asked the public to identify the trucking company and driver. Instead of answers, Campos received threats.

The owner of the trucking company, identified only as Enrique, saw his truck on the news. He immediately turned himself in. Since then, he has received multiple threatening phone calls. He now fears for his safety and his family’s safety.

Who actually caused the Texas semi truck amputation accident?

Enrique’s story goes like this: Just before 6 a.m., his driver hauled a load of heavy sheetrock. Campos had just finished the night shift. According to Enrique, Campos drove into the back of the semi truck. His arm, hanging out the open window, was severed in the crash.

Enrique allowed Dallas police to inspect his big rig. He pointed out the white SUV’s paint on the back of the trailer. The man claimed this evidence supported his driver’s story.

He also obtained security footage from two local businesses. He says the video supports his version of events. “You can clearly see his SUV coming from the back at a high speed, impacting the back of the trailer.”

Enrique adds that he’s known his driver for 20 years. “I’m really, really sorry about what happened to Mr. Carlos,” he says. “But my truck never, never hit his car, never.”

Professional investigators will now review the evidence. If either man presses charges, a jury will decide fault in court. Amateur vigilantes will only muddy the process. If you’re curious, you can view the security camera footage below:
