Chicago drivers scramble for cash as armored truck drops $300,000
Some drivers in Chicago were able to jump out of their cars and scoop up handfuls of cash. An armored truck suddenly dropped $300,000, causing a scramble. I wonder if the Brinks security team responsible for the truck got fired.
Chicago drivers grab cash cash as armored truck drops $300,000
The Oak Park Police Department in Chicago, Illinois shared that an armored truck was traveling south on the 300 block of South Austin Boulevard when cash fell out of the bank.
According to People, a Brinks Home security representative claimed that the back door opened for unknown reasons. Before an employee made it to the back of the truck, people were scrambling for cash.
People got away with $300,000 as the bags of cash fell in the street. Suspects were shoving money into bags and making shift carrying methods then fleeing on foot or in their cars.
Police officers spotted people running from the scene, but didn’t make any arrests. It has been confirmed that no suspects have been held in custody. All of the cash was gone before they arrived on scene.
People who collected cash may want to return it. Keeping it could lead to criminal charges such as theft of lost or mislaid property. But I have a feeling that most people are keeping it in this economy.
It’s unclear if the bills were marked or where the armored truck was heading. Also, there are no reports of why the back door fell open. It could have been due to a security team failure or mechanical error.
