The Chevy Colorado just got slammed with massive delay
Oh no, General Motors is pumping the brakes on mid-size Chevrolet and GMC trucks. The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon will have to sit through a three-week production stoppage due to supply chain issues.
The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon face a new delay
Remember in 2020, when the pandemic rocked the entire world? Many automakers face massive delays due to supply chain disruptions that lasted for months to years.
Now I’m getting a sense of PTSD because the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon are currently facing a similar problem. Production of these trucks will be stopped from September 29 until October 19, 2025.
These trucks are currently being produced in the General Wentzville Assembly facility. It’s about 40 miles west of St. Louis.
According to GM Authority, employees received a letter with information about the production pause. It was co-signed by Plant Executive Director Eric Shelhorn and UAW Local 2250 Chairman Jon Daugherty.
The letter explains that the temporary layoff will impact all shifts, including skilled trades, stamping, body shop, and final process areas. Some support teams and select departments may continue working, and team leaders will provide notice about available work.
General Motors has been very clear that the production pause is due to a parts shortage. However, the automaker didn’t share exactly which parts are in limited supply.
During Covid-19, automakers faced shortages of semi-conductor chips, upholstery fabric, rubber, body insulation, plastics, foams, and specialized metals.
General Motors could be trying to source parts from other countries to skirt around tariff-related price increases. This comes at a bad time as the Colorado and Canyon have been benefiting from increased sales.
