Welcome the Chevrolet Camaro Panther back from the dead
I have some exciting news for muscle car fans. The Chevrolet Camaro Panther could live on. General Motors submitted a patent for the Panther name again. It has a long history of being associated with the Camaro to fight the Ford Mustang.
The Chevrolet Camaro Panther could make a comeback
It’s been a rough time for most muscle cars as many iconic models drop gas-powered engines for electric powertrains. The Ford Mustang went a different route by making a separate electric model known as the Mustang Mach-E.
The Chevrolet Camaro was discontinued in 2023. However, General Motors might be planning a comeback. It just filed “Panther” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The same trademark was filed back in 2023.
Back when the original Camaro was being developed to fight the Ford Mustang, it was kept secret under the Panther codename. Then Chevy decided to drop the Panther name and used the Camaro instead.
Since then, the Panther has been associated with the Camaro. However, according to GM Authority, the name could be used with another vehicle as the Chevy Camaro has plenty of monikers such as SS, ZL1, Z/29, and RS.
The Panther could be something totally different. For example, Ford turned the Maverick into a truck. However, what if it’s a trim level for the next-generation Camaro?
Also, will it be an EV? The Dodge Charger EV went fully electric and it’s not doing so hot. It’s already planning to go back to gas-powered engines. This is something for me to keep watching for updates and clues. General Motors has something Panther-related in the works.
