While reviewing a list of the true 10-year ownership costs of trucks, I nearly choked on my coffee. It’s a little less surprising that full-size pickups come with big strings attached. However, the most affordable truck in America doesn’t offer a significant discount.

What is the 10-year ownership cost for the cheapest truck in America?

There’s no drum roll for this one. However, you may already know that the cheapest truck in America is the Ford Maverick. But how much will it actually save in the long run?

The Maverick has an average 10-year ownership cost of $69,000. That’s pretty good compared to the Ford F-150 with its average ownership cost of $88,900, but I expected a little more savings.

Also, the Toyota Tacoma has an average 10-year ownership cost of $68,000, making it more affordable over time. That’s wild considering it has a higher starting cost than the Maverick.

The 2026 Tacoma has an MSRP of $32,145, and the 2026 Maverick rings in at $28,245. Also, the 2026 Ford F-150 starts at $37,290. These prices don’t include the destination fees.

According to Top Speed, with the Maverick Hybrid, fuel costs about $1,150 per year and the gas-powered engine increases that cost to about $1,900 annually. The 10-year fuel costs cost about $18,900.

To insure a Maverick for 10 years, the average cost is $21,500. It has a 10-year depreciation rate of $17,300 and a 10-year maintenance cost of $5,400. Then the 10-year interest cost comes in at $5,900. The oToyota Tacoma benefits from a $10,879 10-year depreciation cost.
