With great horsepower comes great responsibility. A suspect driving a wide-body Dodge Charger through Atlanta learned that the hard way. And so did his passengers.

Carscoops’ Stephen Rivers first spotted this “cartoonish” chase on the State Boyzzz dashcam YouTube channel (video embedded below). A GSP cruiser pulled up behind the Charger and hit its lights. That’s when the Charger driver took off. For a moment, the driver may have thought he’d left the little 5.7-liter Hemi in the dust. But as the fleeing Charger began to weave across the highway, the patrol car stayed tight on his rear spoiler.

The wide-body Charger spun out. When the driver tried to flee again, the GSP officer PIT maneuvered the car and spun it sideways. The driver floored it, scraping his sedan along the patrol car’s bumper. Then the police officer hit him again.

Passengers react as the chase escalates

Several passengers rode in the fleeing Charger. They alternated between shock, throwing their hands out the open windows to show the officer they didn’t have weapons, and grabbing their phones to record the wild ride.

Finally, the driver took off against traffic and wound around a highway exit. He didn’t get far.

On the surface streets, another cruiser met the GSP officer, and they PIT maneuvered the Charger again. That’s when the driver jumped out and made a break for it. He even disappeared around the corner of a nearby building. But moments later, he reappeared and sprinted back to his car. Perhaps he hoped to take off again, but the other officer met him with a Taser instead.
