Car wash employee crashes car and insists owner pay anyway
Imagine you’re sitting at the car wash, waiting for employees to bring your car around. Then you spot it, looking clean and ready to go. But as you watch, the employee driving your car crashes it into a brick wall. Instead of apologizing, they get out and demand you pay anyway.
TikToker @UnpluggedMoments is a self-titled “storyteller.” Her 442,000 followers tune in to her amusing anecdotes from daily life. The other day, she witnessed something truly unhinged at a car wash.
“I heard this loud crash. I looked around the corner and sure enough, an employee drove a customer’s car into the brick wall.”
She added that when the vehicle came out of the car wash tunnel, it needed to immediately turn or it would hit the wall. This employee must have completed the maneuver many times. But this time, he didn’t turn left, or right, or even pump the brakes. He ran headlong into the wall. “He gets out of the car unfazed and starts waving the white towel as if he was finished.”
Then she saw the car’s owner. “This poor little old man started heading over there.” The narrator called 911, asking for someone to come file a report. She decided to stick around until the police arrived. She was glad she did, because as she watched, “The employee is telling the old man to pay for the car wash.”
During the ensuing debate, the employee admitted the customer wouldn’t get the full service because his car was “inoperable.” But he wanted the owner to pay for the car wash part of the full detail.
The employee continued, “We’ve already called the tow truck.” But then he added, “We’re not releasing the car keys until he pays.”
The woman’s response was decisive: “You just wrecked his car. Are you crazy?”
What’s really infuriating is that the tow truck driver took the car wash employee’s side. The employee was holding the man’s keys hostage, keeping the truck driver from doing his job. Yet the truck driver still said, “Yeah, that does make sense. They did wash his car.”
Luckily, the police arrived with cooler heads. After the police officer oversaw the insurance information exchange, the employee went to work on him too. “He’s trying to convince the cops to tell the old man to pay. The cops was like, ‘Nope, not having it.’”
At first, the police officer’s response was essentially, “It’s not my job.” According to UnpluggedMoments, he said, “If you want to take it to civil court or whatever, you can sue him. But the cops was like, ‘I’m not doing that.’”
When the employee still refused to hand over the keys, the police didn’t mess around. “So then the cop goes, ‘Are you, last time, you’re not going to give him his keys?’” The answer was a resounding, “Nope.” So the police officer pulled out the handcuffs. “He’s like, ‘Okay, well, I’m going to arrest you for larceny.’ Yes, over $20 of car wash, he got arrested.”You can see UnpluggedMoments tell the entire story in the video embedded below:
