Police suspect a botched hit job as “the world’s worst hitman” tries to shoot a woman in her driveway
In case you haven’t played the popular Hitman games, players operate as killer Agent 47. The goal of the game is to neutralize a target without being discovered, which sometimes means using disguises to get close to the target. Two men in Toronto, Ontario, Canada took the game a little too seriously, as police say they targeted a 41-year-old woman on Tuesday, January 21.
The victim, who opted to remain unnamed, was approached by a young Asian man convincingly dressed as a construction worker. Her security cameras caught him speaking to her at the end of her driveway for a while. The woman signs something and continues talking to him.
A few minutes into their conversation, the woman turns around towards her house. The construction worker then draws a gun from his uniform and opens fire – shooting the woman once in the back.
The hitman’s gun apparently jammed
The woman’s security cameras caught the “construction worker” looking frustrated as his gun jammed. He managed to fire two more shots, both of them missing her, and she successfully made it inside.
She called the police and was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police told The Toronto Sun that this wasn’t the first time someone was shot by two men posing as public employees on the same property. A man was hospitalized last June but thankfully survived. Police are still investigating the first attack, and new footage may help give them a lead. Authorities suspect the work of “the world’s worst hitman.”
“She was definitely targeted,” a police spokesperson told the outlet. “It was a hitman.”
Viewers took the opportunity to poke fun
While the Toronto Sun’s coverage was hilariously antagonistic, viewers of the Inside Edition’s YouTube video covering the incident inspired 2,187 people to comment.
“He’s currently armed and not dangerous,” wrote a viewer.
Another made a joke shedding light on the Canadian stereotype of them being too nice.
“Only in Canada can an attempted murder situation look like a comedy sketch,” their comment read. “The gun jamming, the guy wobbling back to the car… All of it.”
Someone else said it must have been the man’s first day on the job.
“‘Sorry, it’s his first day, he’s still learning,’ said the Cartel to the Client,” they wrote.
