California firefighters claim RV explosion could be due to arson
It was a quiet morning at a gas station in San Hose, California as drivers were fueling up for the day. But around 10:30 AM an RV parked near the 7-Eleven on the 400 block of Kiely Boulevard burst into flames.
Then it exploded, sending a fireball into the sky. The flames spread, threatening nearby cars, trees, and buildings. Luckily, firefighters showed up with their gear and trucks in full force to battle the blaze.
According to KTVU, the fire was under control and put out by 11 AM. However, the firefighters were unable to determine what caused the fire.
Their arson unit is currently investigating the matter. Unfortunately, one homeless person lost their life during the incident.
Neighbors weren’t surprised, feeling as if a fire was only a matter of time. The street is a popular place for homeless people to park their campers and trucks.
Residents have previously contacted the City of San Jose to ask about the dangers of gas tanks with flammable materials such as propane.
This street was included in the Oversize and Lived-in Vehicle Enforcement (OLIVE) program. The RVs parked on the street were cleared out for about a month. However, they slowly came back to this popular spot.
Mayor Matt Mahan is pushing for the city to do better for firefighters, police officers, and people suffering on the streets. It puts a toll on the morale and resources of fire responders.
