As Tow Truck Dustin pointed out several times on his adventures from behind the wheel of his tow truck, General Motors is on his list of most frequent tows from a single manufacturer. He explains that GM brands suffer from faulty fuel system modules, which makes it so a driver can crank the engine, but it won’t start due to lack of fuel.

Most cars, Dustin says, can’t be shifted into neutral because of an electronic shifter, so he has to drag customer vehicles onto the back of his truck.

In a recent video (@TowTruck_Dustin), a customer with a 2023 Cadillac XT4 had his fuel pump module fail on him after having driven only 3.5 miles from the dealership. Dustin recognized the XT4 from a tow job he’d done for the customer a month before.

“This is actually the second time I’ve towed this particular Cadillac,” said Dustin. “I towed it almost a month to the day… It’s suffering from the same crank but no start issue. This will be the second failure it’s had in less than a month for the same part.”

The owner said he’ll never buy another Cadillac

The first time the fuel pump module failed was at the owner’s apartment, but the second time was while he was working out. He couldn’t start it, hence his call to Dustin.

“Lesson learned, never buy a Cadillac,” said the owner as he shook Dustin’s hand. “I drove it a total of 3.5 miles since I got it back from the dealership.”

The owner said the Caddy was in the shop for several weeks after the module failed the first time. The wait was due to the technicians having to wait for parts to arrive. He was happy to have his Cadillac back but was less than thrilled to have to return it to the dealership in such a short period of time for the same issue.

While the fix at the dealership is free, the towing is not.

“It’s the same fuel pump module failure as last time,” said Dustin. “That is absolutely crazy.”

Commenters had jokes

Dustin’s a known hater on GM for not making the fuel pump module issue a recall, and his commenters couldn’t help but joke that it’s keeping his pay steady.

“You should have that dealership including your business car with EVERY sale!” a viewer wrote.

Another said people should watch his videos before heading to a dealership.

“Yours is the perfect channel to watch before buying a new car,” they said.

Others said GM didn’t seem too keen on fixing the problem after four years of issues.

“I can’t believe how many broken down GM vehicles you tow, and you’re just one person,” they wrote. “Can you imagine how many other tow truck drivers are towing these?”
