Take my TV or my stereo, but not my classic car. A trio of burglars have been charged with nabbing a pair of beloved Chevrolet muscle cars during a break-in in November. But don’t worry, no classics were actually harmed in the making of this story.
On Nov. 17, 2025, someone reported a burglary in the small town of Bassett, Virginia. Between Nov. 5 and 17, someone broke into the home and drove away with both a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle. As if that wasn’t enough, they also took other household items.
Bassett, which sits about an hour north of Greensboro, North Carolina, has a population of 1,100. Police probably didn’t have a long list of suspects. Within an hour of the report, the Henry County Sheriff recovered the 1967 Chevelle.
How deputies tracked down the Camaro
Police asked for the public’s help in locating the other car. The community delivered. On Nov. 20, someone reported a blue Chevrolet Camaro hidden in the woods, just over the Patrick County line. Deputies from both Sheriff’s Offices arrived at the scene, confirmed they were looking at the stolen car, and found Bobby Leagans nearby. He had the car’s keys in his pocket. He was also wanted in Henry County for a probation violation.
All told, three men are locked up and face multiple charges, including grand larceny. Bobby Eugene Leagans (45) and Brent Ray Doss (38) are being held without bail. William Alfred Doss (60) had bail set at a $5,000 secured bond. When the Sheriff’s Office posted mugshots, Preston East joked, “Was this father and son bonding gone wrong?”
