‘Truly Outstanding’ Ohio Brother and Sister Save School Bus Driver During Medical Emergency
A pair of kids in Ashland, Ohio, had their regular commute turn frightening. But the dynamic duo kept their cool, leapt into action, and saved the day.
Eight-year-old Catrina sat at the front of the bus when she noticed something was wrong with the driver. The woman appeared to be struggling to breathe. Catrina stood up and asked, “You OK?”
The response was a silent head shake. No, the driver was not OK. She could not even speak.
Luckily, Catrina had a sidekick on the bus. The third-grader ran to the back to get her 14-year-old brother.
Quick thinking on a moving bus
The quick-thinking seventh-grader recalled what he did next. “When I realized that something was going on, [I] went up there and grabbed the radio and then called the school because I knew that that was the quickest way to get help.”
His dispatch was clear and precise: “We need help on 12th road, bus 8. Bus driver cannot breathe.”
Emergency responders arrived, and the driver survived. Paramedics took her to the hospital, where to undergo further testing. She has since been released.
The community hailed the siblings as heroes. Catrina offered one of the best definitions of bravery. “My brother … in the inside when something’s going wrong, he’s scared but on the outside, he’s like calm and concentrated.”
She added that she feels “proud and happy with myself and happy that we got her like, all better now.” You can see the bus security footage embedded below:
