Parents are angry with school as an SUV hits a student during protest
During a peaceful protest at Fremont High School in Nebraska, a student was attacked. An SUV with a Trump flag stopped during the anti-ICE protest and exchanged words with a few teenagers.
Then the driver got back in the vehicle and intentionally accelerated in the direction of a student holding a sign. The driver hit her and kept going, as an immediate emergency response followed.
Police officers have since located the SUV. Also, the student will make a full recovery and only suffers from minor bruising. But parents are angry.
The mother of the student blames the school for allowing the protest to happen. According to WOWT, she asks, “Where were the teachers and why weren’t they paying attention?”
However, schools aren’t permitted to physically prevent students from leaving campus or gathering on public sidewalks. Also, staff remained present to encourage safe, peaceful behavior.
Students who participated in the event were marked with an unverified absence to notify parents of the student-led protest. Police officers share that appropriate charges will be determined at the completion of the investigation.
The school shares, “There is no room, zero for violence. In this fragile time, it is vitally important to stay safe. No one should be injured during a peaceful protest.
