American Ram HD trucks were accidentally equipped with Canadian features
Uh oh, there is an awkward recall for American and Canadian Ram HD trucks. These heavy-duty pickups may have displays that seem a little confusing. Some models were accidentally equipped with the instrument clusters designed for Canadian models.
American Ram HD trucks have Canadian features
On a positive note, the latest Ram truck recall isn’t exactly deadly. But it is pretty comical as drivers enter their 2026 Ram HD pickups and get confused by the digital gauge clusters.
American models were accidentally built with the software designed for Canadian models. Plus, Canadian trucks got the digital gauge cluster for American pickups.
According to Stellantis, the 2026 Ram 2500 heavy duty, 3500HD, 4500HD, and 5500HD trucks were mistakenly equipped with Canadian marker instrument clusters. Then, Canada issued a nearly identical recall because their trucks have the American instrument cluster.
The Canadian and American instrument clusters are designed to meet different standards. Canada follows ISO 7000 standards, while America has Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Some dash lights and symbols are pretty universal. For example, the triangle inside a triangle is for hazard lights. But America requires ‘BRAKE’ to be spelled out, while Canada provides an image of a shoe tapping a brake pedal.
Only about 124 Ram trucks are involved in Canada, and the recall includes 2,885 trucks in America. Stellantis will begin notifying owners at risk via mail after September 23, 2025.
If your truck has the wrong digital gauge cluster, then you will need to visit a local dealership for service. The correct cluster will be installed, free of charge.
