Let’s say you want to skip town instead of showing up for your court date. Unfortunately, you’re wearing an ankle tracker. It will alert police the moment you leave the area. One Albany man enlisted an unwitting canine accomplice. The poor pup probably thought it was all a game.

Authorities say Lamont Holmes was due in court on weapons charges. He never showed. If police checked the location of his ankle monitor they must have felt relieved. He appeared to be running circles in the nearby town of Nassau.

A vet spots the scheme

That relief ended with a phone call from a veterinarian.

The vet had found a dog running loose. When staff examined the animal, they noticed something unusual. An ankle monitor was hanging from the dog’s collar. Investigators believe Holmes cut off the monitor and “affixed it to a dog.”

The dog is not facing any charges. Holmes, however, is firmly in the doghouse.
