Thieves take 87 Ram 1500 infotainment systems in one Michigan county
Macomb County Police Officers are begging Ram 1500 owners in Michigan to take caution and beef up their security. The Sheriff’s office has investigated 87 reports of stolen Ram truck infotainment screens since February 2025.
Some victims have had their trucks targeted multiple times. Most of the thefts have occurred in residential areas. Depending on the seller and features, the infotainment screen fetches between $150 and $4,000 online.
According to FREEP, Officers have identified two potential suspects who were caught breaking into vehicles by a surveillance camera. The Detroit Police Department, Oakland Sheriff’s Auto Theft Unit, helped the Macomb Auto Theft Squad take the suspects into custody.
But the Ram truck thieves could still be at large, and the screens are stolen in 30 seconds or less. The infotainment screens are only held in place by two screws. So if the suspects are armed with the right screwdrivers, it’s game over.
Sure, an immobilizer prevents thieves from driving away. But it doesn’t stop them from breaking windows to gain entry.
Also, there is a security code that blocks the infotainment system from being used once it’s taken. However, criminals have plenty of creative ways to unlock it. This theft is faster and easier than it is to steal a Kia.
