Admit it, you’ve always heard great things about the Toyota Tacoma lasting forever. It, as well as the Toyota Tundra, have a reputation for being reliable and durable. However, the 2025 Toyota Tacoma might not hold up as well as its rivals or older generations.

Seven trucks that are more reliable than the 2025 Toyota Tacoma

First of all, I’m judging how reliable mid-size trucks are based on scores provided by J.D.Power and RepairPal. Both sites use feedback from actual drivers to determine how reliable trucks are expected to be.

Surveys are sent out to owners, allowing them to report any problems they face, from a simple issue with the paint chipping to total engine failure. Then they get an average score based on a 100-point or 5.0 scale.

For J.D.Power, scores between 70 and 80 are average. Anything between 81 and 90 is above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best. RepairPal ranks average scores at 3.0.

According to J.D.Power, the 2025 Toyota Tacoma has a score of 80. It’s one point away from being above average. RepairPal gives it a 3.5 out of 5.0, so it’s above average.

However, it’s a bit early to determine how many miles the fourth-generation Tacoma is expected to last. It debuted with a hybrid engine in 2024 and hasn’t had time to be put to the test.

1. 2023 Toyota Tacoma

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is the last model year of the third generation.  It earned a score of 83 from J.D.Power, which is above average. You may have expected the older model to have a much higher score, but it’s only three points ahead.

But this Toyota truck shouldn’t disappoint as a long-lasting survivor. The average third-generation Tacoma should last between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. Many examples surpass 300,000 and 400,000 miles. The older engines could prove to be longer lasting.

2. 2025 Jeep Gladiator

Surprise alert! The 2025 Jeep Gladiator earned a reliability score of 88 out of 100, which is incredibly high. It might be the highest score for a truck that I’ve ever seen. Perhaps having a solid axle is more beneficial than expected.

The average Gladiator truck is expected to reach about 250,000 miles. Some examples could last longer, but this is still a young option. It just debuted in 2020, so there aren’t many examples that have been pushed to high-mileage limits yet.

3. 2025 Nissan Frontier

I don’t mean to throw shade at Nissan. I enjoy reviewing the Armada, Altima, Rogue, and Frontier. But you never hear people say I want a Nissan because they last forever. Maybe they should, as the 2025 Frontier has a reliability score of 87 from J.D.Power.

Also, My Mom’s 2019 Frontier that’s used for towing horse trailers and other farm truck purposes, is doing great at 170,000 miles. The average Frontier truck is expected to last about 250,000 miles. But there are many examples that surpass 300,000 miles.

4. 2025 Ford Ranger

Welcome the 2025 Ford Ranger to the stage. Unfortunately,  not enough people provided data for J.D.Power to provide a ranking. However, RepairPal gave it a 4.0 out of 5.0. This is an above-average score that’s ahead of the 2025 Tacoma’s.

It also got new engines in 2024, like the Tacoma. The average fifth-generation Ranger truck is expected to last between 250,000 to 300,000 miles. This generation is still young, but high mileage models are coming out of the woodwork.

5. 2025 Chevrolet Colorado

Next, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado rings in with a score of 83. That’s a solid above-average score. It’s part of the third generation that was introduced in 2023. So, the new model managed to come out ahead of the new Tacoma and Ranger.

Drivers are reporting being pretty happy with their third generation Chevy Colorado trucks. The average model is expected to easily reach between 250,000 to 300,000 miles. However, there are examples that surpass 300,000 miles.

6. 2025 GMC Canyon

The 2025 GMC Canyon is the Chevy Colorado’s fancy twin. So you would expect these trucks to have the same reliability score. However, the Canyon has an 82. Apparently, it has more reported issues than the hard-working peasant truck.

It’s also in its third generation and launched in 2023. The average Canyon truck is expected to reach 250,000 miles. But drivers are reporting surpassing 300,000 miles. Proper maintenance and regular care are the keys to longevity.

7. 2025 Honda Ridgeline

GASP, how dare I list the 2025 Honda Ridgeline? Is it really even a truck with its unibody construction? Well, yes, it does have a bed and can tow up to 5,000 lbs. Plus, the Ridgeline has a comfortable ride. It also has a reliability score of 82 from J.D.Power.

This truck is expected to reach 250,000 miles fairly easily. Many examples survive over 250,000 miles before major problems occur. There are some that are still kicking at over 300,000 miles. However, these trucks are probably kept nicer as they primarily stay on the pavement.
