“Now that the car market is leveling out, we’re starting to see trucks returning to normal as well,” Seth Godwin begins. He’s a personal finance content creator who posts daily money tips, often involving cars. Godwin says that just a couple of years ago, used trucks were often selling for more than what you could buy them new today. After the market cooldown, pickup prices are well below new model MSRPs. Godwin recently shared the five trucks that retain their value best after five years of ownership.

Five trucks that retain the most value after 60 months in 2025

5. GMC Canyon

The midsize pickup loses a “slight” 32% of its original market value after 60 months of ownership.

4. Ford Maverick

This compact truck is just now five years out of its inaugural production run, so it’s only just qualified for Godwin’s list. On average, it loses 30.1% of its original value. “I’m interested to see where the Maverick lands in a few years because production still hasn’t quite caught up to the demand so the resale market is still pretty hot for them,” he explains.

3. Jeep Gladiator

While Godwin claims this model is “everyone’s favorite to hate,” the truck only sheds 29.7% of its value over five years. “This one is especially shocking to me considering there are a ton of markets where these things are selling for less than MSRP,” he says. “The dealerships are practically begging people to take them off their lots.”

2. Toyota Tundra

The Tundra placing second on the list might come as a shock to some…but because it’s not the No. 1 truck when it comes to retaining value. Still, the Tundra only scraps 26.7% of its original value after 60 months of ownership. However, “the newer Tundras have had some, “interesting issues,” that have many Toyota loyalists raising their eyebrows,” Godwin adds, referring to the engine production defect triggering early replacement. “And it just might affect the coming years of this list.”

The Tundra has its smaller sibling to blame

After five years, the Toyota Tacoma loses just 22.4% of its original value. Considering the Nissan Titan discards a hefty 44.2% after 60 months, shedding just half that seems quite impressive. For used Tacoma shoppers, though, expect to pay a premium for any models listed in excellent condition.
