It can be nice to feel large and in charge with a full-size SUV like the 2026 Ford Expedition. It’s still flexing its complete redesign that launched the fifth generation in 2025. It’s fresh and modern with plenty of features to praise. However, there are still a few reasons to consider its competitors instead.

Five pros about driving the 2026 Ford Expedition

1. There is plenty of space

One issue with the Toyota Sequoia that I can’t get over is the lack of cargo space behind the third row. But this isn’t a problem with the 2026 Ford Expedition.

The Expedition provides 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row and 69.9 cubic feet behind the second row. There are 108.5 cubic feet of cargo space overall. Plus, the seats are easy to fold flat to create a level cargo floor.

There is an abundance of passenger space as well. This SUV is well-suited for big and tall folks with plenty of adjustment controls. In fact, adults won’t complain about the second and third row seats either.

2. The 2026 Expedition is comfortable

Typically, massive SUVs that share frames with trucks are known for having a rough ride quality. The suspension is often prone to vibrating. But the Ford Expedition gets things right with a smooth ride quality.

Impacts from torn-up sections of the pavement and while off-roading are quickly absorbed and settled to keep the peace and prevent people from getting car sick. Also, the interior is surprisingly quiet and peaceful for relaxing jaunts.

Best of all, the climate control system has no trouble keeping up with such a large interior space to keep warm or cool. I appreciated the fast-acting and effective ventilated seats during hot and humid afternoons.

3. The V6 engine offers plenty of power

Sadly, the 2026 Ford Expedition doesn’t have a V8 engine, but that’s fine. The turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine has a standard output of 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. But you can upgrade to the high-output variant for 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.

The Expedition can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.9 seconds. This provides plenty of power for this bus to pass others and merge into traffic. Also, its size can be intimidating, but the brakes are confident.

The Expedition has the best-in-class tow rating of up to 9,600 lbs. Features such as Pro Trailer Backup assist and multiple camera views are helpful.

4. The expedition is versatile

The 2026 Ford Expedition is prepared for anything. Sure, it’s massive, but it has an agile turning radius, making it easy to maneuver in tight city spaces. The viability provided by the 360-degree camera view and other views allows you to quickly and confidently navigate through tight areas.

If you need to take the entire family on a road trip, then there are tons of cup holders for all the water bottles and juices. There is space for everyone’s bags.

Plus, there are tons of USB ports and outlets to keep all the phones and tablets charged. The Expedition gets about 15 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway, and has a range of up to 528 miles between fillups.

The Expedition impresses in the woods as well. It’s well-suited for getting to the campsite as it displays your gauges, pitch and roll, and includes downhill descent control.

5. There are standout features

The Ford Expedition is unique with features such as BlueCruise. The hands-free driving system has improved since it was first released by making sure you’re paying attention. Also, the connection remains strong, so you can sit back and relax.

Next, the split tailgate feature allows you to open the rear without having all the random stuff in the cargo area spill out. The rear portion of the tailgate folds flat to assist with loading large and bulky items.

Also, the power-sliding center console allows you to position cupholders closer to rear passengers and can hide sensitive items from potential thieves.

2026 Ford Expedition cons

1. The Expedition is hefty

I know, I said the size of the 2026 Ford Expedition isn’t an issue. It’s not, while parking or avoiding obstacles. However, its heft is pretty noticeable around curves at speeds around 45 mph.

It’s not the most athletic option as its height and weight take away from its handling. Also, the steering is a bit loose, which can be stressful while turning around.

On a trial through the woods, while leafers were out in full force, I felt like I didn’t have enough room to let others buy. So, it was time to turn around. But even with the Trail Turn Assist feature, I ended up doing a 22-point turn to avoid falling off the side of the mountain.

2. The tech is a bit distracting

The 2026 Ford Expedition can be distracting at first due to all of its massive screens. The 24.0-inch dashboard display sits behind the steering wheel, and there’s a 13.2-inch infotainment screen.

Your maps, speed, and gauges are placed in multiple spots, making it distracting. It takes a few minutes to get used to where you need to look. Then the HVAC controls have touch sensitive controls instead of physical buttons.

You can do a lot of things, like surf the web and watch movies while parked. Plus, there are endless customization settings. This isn’t a complaint, just my reasoning to suggest having someone at the dealership walk you through the system to fully learn what it can do.

3. Ford Expedition subscriptions

Don’t get used to all of the 2026 Ford Expedition’s tech. The Ford Connectivity system has an annual cost of $149,95 after the first year. But you can pay $745 up front for seven years of service.

That just feels a bit expensive for features such as voice control commands and playing YouTube videos on the infotainment screen. However, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
