You might not need the latest Mazda CX-5 model for a comfortable, athletic, and capable SUV. Sure, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 is rocking a refreshed redesign with modern amenities. However, the 2025 model still has features to love.

Five reasons to stick with the 2025 Mazda CX-5

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 launches this SUV’s third-generation, while the 2025 model is part of the second generation that debuted back in 2017.

Some may feel like it’s about time that dinosaurs got modern updates. However, after a recent spin with the 2025 model, I feel as if it’s only improved with age.

1. The 2025 CX-5 offers more power, for now

The 2026 Mazda CX-5 is launching with the carryover standard entry-level engine. It’s a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. It’s adequate, but not the sportiest option in the world.

But the 2025 model offers the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with up to 256 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. This engine helps the CX-5 accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.6 seconds

This is faster than popular rivals such as the Toyota RAV4. Plus, it’s dialed in with responsive handling, confident brakes, and smooth transmission shifts. However, the 2026 model is gaining a hybrid engine later in the year. It might not be available until 2027.

    2. The 2026 CX-5 is larger

The updated Mazda CX-5 has increased in size. It gained 3.0 inches in width and 4.5 inches in length. I know that sounds great for those needing more passenger and cargo space.

However, the current model is extremely convenient for tight city areas. It can fit anywhere, and you don’t exactly need 360-degree camera views to squeeze around obstacles.

Plus, the turning radius is a convenient 18.0 feet. Turning this SUV around to quickly get out of Dodge isn’t an issue.

Taller folks don’t complain about needing more space in the front seats. Also, at 5’1”, I don’t struggle in the rear. But taller passengers might struggle in the backseat.

      3. The rotary dial system is gone

If you love using the classic Mazda rotary and dial system to control the infotainment system, then stick with the 2025 model. The 2026 CX-5 has a new touch screen, and the dial is gone.

Some drivers may feel like the rotary dial system is inconvenient. But its clicks are satisfying, and it’s easy to master. It allows you to focus on the road instead of being distracted by various menus and options.

Plus, it’s not like the CX-5 is super dated. It has modern features like a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, adaptive cruise control, a wireless phone charging pad, ventilated seats, and rear cross traffic alert.

        4. The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is reliable

The 2025 Mazda CX-5 has been put through the paces. It has spent time on the road and received improvements. J.D.power gave it a reliability score of 82 out of 100, which is great and above average.

You can trust this model to provide reliable service. Jumping in blindly with a new model can be risky. For example, the latest Toyota Tundra generation just launched with engine problems and multiple recalls.

It’s often safer to wait and see how a new vehicle holds up before buying one. However, the Mazda engineers do ensure plenty of quality testing.

          5. The 2025 Mazda CX-5 has value

The 2025 Mazda CX-5 has an MSRP of $30,262. It’s often praised by critics for providing near-luxury quality without the high price tag.

The interior is built with premium, upscale materials, and the interior is super quiet at highway speeds. Sure, the ride can be firm, but it’s an athletic model and the suspension quickly absorbs impacts. Plus, AWD is standard.

While the 2026 Mazda CX-5 will probably include standard AWD, pricing hasn’t been released. It’s safe to expect a larger SUV with more tech to be more expensive.

Instead of waiting for the 2026 model to arrive, the 2025 Mazda CX-5 delivers everything you need for an engaging, convenient, and comfortable experience. That’s why it still outranks other SUVs despite being older.
