1. Chris Pratt 

If you’re a fan of Parks and Recreation, Jurassic Park, or Guardians of the Galaxy, then you’re familiar with Chris Pratt. Back in the day, he lived in an old van with a friend. Still, he was 19 and having the time of his life in Maui. 

He finally got a role in a horror movie, ‘Cursed Part 3’. The part paid him $700, which was enough for him to get out of Maui. Pratt managed to make that money last for an entire year and jokes about how bringing dates home was awkward during van life. 

2. Tyler Parry 

The man behind Madea, Tyler Perry, put all of his money into his musical, ‘I Know I’ve Been Changed’. As a result, he was homeless for six years. During that time, he lived in a Geo Metro. 

Perry asks if you can imagine a six-foot-five man sleeping in a Geo Metro, and I can’t! I’m 5’1”, and it looks like a tight squeeze for this little truck hobbit. 

Not only that, he was living in Atlanta at the time. Hopefully, the Metro had working AC, as the city is known for scorching heat. 

3. Hillary Swank 

According to the NY Post, before Hillary Swank landed breakout roles in award-winning films like ‘Boys Don’t Cry,’ she lived in her car. After her father left the family, she took off to Los Angeles in an Oldsmobile. 

Swank lived in the car with her mom so she could audition for parts. I wonder if they took turns sleeping in the backseat. But it’s a good thing that her mother supported her dreams, as things paid off. 

4. William Shatner 

Technically, William Shatner lived in a truck after Star Trek, around 1969. He divorced his wife and was a father of three at the time. So, he was completely broke and did what he had to in order to get by. 

Shatner’s dog kept him company, and they slept in the truck bed, under a shell. The Pickup had a stove as well. Eventually, Shatner got back on his feet by starring in several shows. 

5. Kelly Clarkson 

Before Kelly Clarkson made it big as a popular singer, she faced her fair share of struggles. Once her apartment building burned down in Los Angeles, she lived in her car. Clarkson used gym shoes to clean up for auditions. 

She almost gave up and moved back to Texas. But in the nick of time, she auditioned for American Idol. Clarkson ended up winning the entire competition.
