North Carolina man busted for trying to kill a police officer with a truck
29-year-old Victor Alfonso Elvira-Tapia faces multiple charges, including felonies in four different North Carolina counties. The Durham man went on a bit of a crime spree in a stolen Ford F-150.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol shared that he was fleeing from troopers in the Ford F-150. During a police chase, he tried to crash head-on into a police officer. According to CBS 17, he reached 101 mph in a 35-mile-per-hour zone during the chase.
The charges include:
- Two counts of felony fleeing/eluding arrest with a motor vehicle
- Two counts of misdemeanor failure to heed to a light or siren
- Two counts of misdemeanor reckless driving with wanton disregard
- Two counts of misdemeanor speeding
- Two counts of infractions driving left of center
- Two infractions of failure to stop at a steady red light
- Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
Overall, with previous warrants, Elvira-Tapis faces 35 charges. He’s also accused of shooting a man with a semi-automatic pistol and stealing a dump trailer in Granville County.
Plus, he allegedly stole a vehicle in Orange County and over $2,000 worth of car batteries in Wake County. It’s unclear if any police officers were injured during the chase and arrest. But things feel safer with him behind bars.
