Coffee truck explosion injures four in North Carolina

It was a quiet morning in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, until a massive boom followed by plumes of smoke disrupted the peace. The coffee truck suddenly exploded at 7:27 AM. The incident occurred near the coliseum on 2824 University Parkway.

Coincidentally, the Winston-Salem Police Department bomb squad was training in the area. Officers heard the blast and rushed over to help. Random scraps of metal and debris littered the street.

31 firefighters also rushed to the scene to assist with the emergency situation and administer aid. According to WXII 12, four people inside the coffee truck were injured.

They were taken to local hospitals with burns. The Givens Coffee Company employees were alert and talking. However, they will require further medical treatment.

The explosion caused a massive vehicle fire that disrupted traffic for hours. The truck was parked in a convenient place for move-in day at Wake Forest University.

No students were injured. Traffic to campus had to be rerouted. But many students and families were checking in at the coliseum during the blast.

There is an ongoing investigation into the cause of the explosion. The truck was eventually towed away from the scene hours later.

Wake Forest University shared that the community sympathizes with all impacted by this incident. It’s grateful to those who assisted bystanders. It’s also offering support to anyone affected.
