Many will say that the Hyundai Santa Cruz isn’t a real truck as it has a unibody design. But the new Hyundai truck will be here by 2030 with serious rugged upgrades to shake up the competition. Significant plans are in the works.

Three ways the new Hyundai will change the game

1. Body-on-frame design

The new Hyundai truck is looking to tackle the Toyota Tacoma, which is currently the king of mid-size options. To do so, it has to be rugged and capable. That’s why it’s getting a body-on-frame platform.

Ladder frame designs allow for more suspension travel over rough terrain. It flexes more and absorbs impacts more easily. Plus, it’s easier to repair and allows trucks to tow heavier loads. However, unibody designs often provide more comfort.

2. The midgate

A patent filing for the next truck includes a midgate. This is a beloved feature of the Chevrolet Avalanche truck. It extended the truck’s bed into the cabin, allowing you to carry longer items in the bed. But there’s still a usable backseat when the extra length isn’t needed.

However, this can make it difficult to store taller items because the cabin roof might be limiting. But a retractable roof could provide a unique new solution to this old problem. Also, some drivers might want a retractable window instead.

3. Removable doors

According to AutoBlog, Hyundai Motor Company just filed a patent that describes modular, removable doors. So, like the Jeep Gladiator, the new rugged Hyundai truck might be able to get naked.

The design incorporates automatic electrical connections to be more convenient than Ford and Jeep models. It aims to simplify food installation and removal while preserving structural integrity and occupant safety.
