Three Los Angeles cops injured as police cars crash
I hope that the three Los Angeles police officers who ended up in the hospital during a high-speed pursuit make a speedy recovery.
Officers were chasing possibly intoxicated suspects in a stolen vehicle near the Northridge-Resade city border when things took a dangerous turn. A few police cars suddenly collided at an intersection. Officers were responding to requests for backup.
Firefighters share that the collision occurred around 10:25 PM in the 8300 block of N. Wilbur Avenue. They rushed to the scene to provide emergency care. Two of the officers were in critical condition, and the other had less severe injuries.
According to CBS News, firefighters helped one man get out of a severely damaged cruiser, and another was able to get himself onto a stretcher. They have since been treated and released.
Witnesses could see the men being loaded into ambulances. The two Ford Explorer interceptor SUVs involved might be considered totaled.
Right before the vehicles collided, the suspects abandoned the stolen vehicle and took off on foot. Three men, including one with a gun, were involved. All of them have been taken into custody.
Also, the driver was found to be operating under the influence. The moments leading up to the accident are currently under investigation.
