Stretch out in the 2025 SUVs with the most legroom
Not all back seats are created equal. The second and even third row of some SUVs are generous enough to fit most adults. But in other models, tall passengers may feel cramped. Luckily, iSeeCars has ranked 2025 SUVs by their manufacturer-claimed second-row legroom. It’s crowned a winner in several size categories.
A couple interesting tidbits and an upset: Detroit managed to take the subcompact category—thanks to GM’s innovative Chevy Trailblazer/Cadillac XT4 design. Detroit’s big body-on-frame SUVs take the regular large SUV category, as you’d expect. But in the luxury large category, Mercedes carves out a legroom win. Here’s how the winners stack up.
2025 SUVs with the most legroom
| Category | 1st Place | 2nd Place |
| Subcompact SUV | Chevrolet TrailBlazer (39 inches) | Chevrolet Trax (38.7 inches) |
| Luxury Subcompact SUV | Cadillac XT4 (39.5 inches) | Mercedes-Benz GLA (38.4 inches) |
| Small SUV | Hyundai Tucson (41.3 inches) | Kia Sportage (41.3 inches) |
| Luxury Small SUV | Buick Envision (39.3 inches) | Cadillac XT5 (39 inches) |
| Midsize SUV | Jeep Wagoneer L (42.7 inches) | Hyundai Palisade (42.4 inches) |
| Luxury Midsize SUV | Lincoln Nautilus (43.1 inches) | Mercedes-Benz GLE (40.9 inches) |
| Large SUV | Jeep Wagoneer (42.7 inches) | Jeep Grand Wagoneer (42.7 inches) |
| Luxury Large SUV | Mercedes-Benz GLS (43.4 inches) | Lincoln Navigator (42 inches) |
The legroom list is mostly dominated by American automakers, Mercedes-Benz, and South Korean automakers. Though Hyundai and Kia took a couple second-place prizes, Hyundai only took one first: the Tucson in the “small SUV” category.
Jeep places its Wagoneer in the non-luxury category but is trying to position the Grand Wagoneer as a luxury SUV. Its 42.7 inches of second-row legroom would be enough to take second from the Lincoln Navigator, but not enough to take first place from the Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Note that even for the third-row SUVs, these rankings don’t include third-row legroom. Also note that iSeeCars urges tall drivers to look beyond legroom measurements and consider power-adjustable controls such as the pedals and steering wheel, height-adjustable seats, and the impact of an optional sunroof on headroom. Obviously, a test drive is critical, and bringing any especially large passengers in your family along can ensure you buy something that will fit everyone.
