It’s about time to save fuel with Mazda’s most American SUV. The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid will be here soon with the help of Toyota. Basically, the Mazda CX-50 is borrowing a hybrid engine from Toyota.

The 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid is on the way

Weclome the 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid to America! Toyota is providing a hybrid engine to help the CX-50 become more fuel-efficient.

I’m not sure why Toyota is helping Mazda, because it’s giving the competition an advantage. But Toyota has a lot of experience with hybrid engines, so the CX-50 should be gaining a reliable option.

It could receive an engine like the one found in the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It pairs a 2.5-liter engine with three electric motors to generate 219 hp and 163 lb-ft of torque.

The third electric motor sits on the rear axle to enhance its AWD performance and the CX-50 benefits from standard AWD.

Also, the RAV4 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 41 mpg in the city, up to 38 mpg on the highway, and 39 mpg combined.

With the current Mazda CX-50, you get an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway.

The standard Mazda CX-50 engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged variant provides 227 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque with regular gas and 256 hp and 320 lb-ft with 93 octane premium fuel.

If I had to guess, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid will line up somewhere in the middle. But unfortunately, we have to wait and see.

The CX-50 Hybrid is expected to arrive by the end of the year. The gas-powered models should start popping up at dealerships around August.

Pricing for the 2025 CX-50 starts at $31,720, including the $1,420 destination fee. The top-spec 2.5Turbo Premium Plus model takes the price up to $44,720.The CX-50 Hybrid will start at $35,390 and the Premium Plus model increases the cost to $41,470.

Stay tuned for updates, I usually review every Mazda model in the lineup each year, so I hope to get behind the wheel this fall.
