You can find some pretty good deals on Chevy Silverado 1500 trucks right now. However, these trucks are facing a few different problems. Before you pull the trigger, learn about the most commonly reported issues for the 2025 model year.

The worst 2025 Chevy Silverado problems

1. Engine Problems

The 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 has the most complaints related to engine problems. Drivers shared that the engine was prone to surging, then experienced reduced power as their trucks entered limp mode.

The trucks would shutter and fail to accelerate suddenly in traffic. Sometimes, the engine made a rattling noise before stalling.

According to Pickup Truck Talk, this is related to a problem with the 6.2-liter V8 engine that led to a recall and a stop sale. The connecting road and crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that led to engine damage and failure.

Chevrolet technicians repair the engines at no cost to owners. Also, no new models can be sold unless the recall has been fixed.

2. Electrical Problems

Silverado drivers are frustrated by electrical problems. There are complaints related to the power steering going out, the parking brake getting stuck, and the dash suddenly lighting up like a Christmas tree.

Sometimes the infotainment screen would go dark or get stuck in DEMO mode. Also, the battery would drain and the key fob would lose connection.

There isn’t a related recall to address this problem or a clear cause. However, some sources recommend receiving a software update to fix it.

3. Drivetrain problems

Owners of new Silverado trucks also complained about drivetrain problems. Their trucks would suddenly lose power, shudder, and fail to accelerate. Drivers shared that errors would randomly appear on the dashboard before their trucks stopped working.

In some cases, the truck randomly shifted into neutral or wouldn’t engage in reverse. There are also reports of hard shifts and surging.

This could be related to lifter problems in the V8 engines. They can get stuck, bend, and collapse. The fix involves replacing the lifters, and some drivers reported facing the same problem again and claim there’s no real fix.
