Whoa, is there trouble in paradise? Two of the most iconic Toyota SUVs have been slapped with unexpected sales declines. Is this a temporary setback or the start of a struggle? Let’s see why drivers are flocking to other options.

Drum roll, please! The two Toyota SUVs with sudden declining sales are the Toyota RAV4 and the Toyota 4Runner. However, I doubt Toyota is starting to panic as the RAV4 is currently the most popular SUV in the world.

It outsells the Ram 1500 and could tackle the Chevrolet Silverado next. It also outsells the Tesla Model Y. But the 4Runner’s decline is a bit more shocking, as it has been viewed as a reliable powerhouse for decades.

According to HotCars, the RAV4 sold 41,736 models in June of 2024 and 36,810 in June 2025, for an 11.8% sales decline. It also has a year-to-date sales decline of  3.6%

The 4Runner sold 9,530 models in June 2024 and only 5,793 in 2025 for a 39.2% sales decline. It has a year-to-date sales decline of 54.7%.

For the RAV4, people might be waiting for the redesigned 2026 model to drop. It hasn’t been remodeled since 2019. But it will only have hybrid powertrains, eliminating the popular gas-powered model.

The 4Runner could be struggling due to tariffs. It was redesigned in 2025 and could just be off to a slow start as production had to prepare to build the new models. It didn’t get a massive price hike to deter buyers.

However, drivers are also buying other Toyota SUVs instead. The Land Cruiser, Grand Highlander, and Lexus GX each have massive sales increases.
