10 cars drivers say they’d never own again
If you have a dream car you think you’d never give up, landing it might change your mind. Many drivers are surprised to find they don’t enjoy owning certain prized or popular vehicles. It only takes getting behind the wheel to realize the experience isn’t as great as advertised. This week, someone started a Reddit thread with the question, “Are there such things as 10/10 cars you would never drive again?” I found a lot of the answers either entertaining or insightful.
Here are 10 cars drivers say they have zero interest in owning again:
Used BMWs
A couple of commenters shared that owning a used BMW either didn’t meet their performance expectations or required too much in maintenance and repairs. They mentioned a modified 318iS (E36), a 335i (N54), and a 525i manual wagon (E39).
Dodge Viper
Several Redditors say after being in one, particularly the GTS, they’ll stay away.
“Thing requires racing lessons cause that thing is always tryna kill you.”
“I owned a 2nd gen viper GTS for a few years and really enjoyed the experience and thought it was a blast. However now that I had it I am over it and have no desire to own another.”
“I wouldn’t call the car 10/10 but it’s certainly a serious machine and a lot of fun.”
“…On a race track (I was instructing the owner). Glad I got to experience the terror, completely happy to never experience it again.”
Toyota 4Runner
“I feel like everyone hypes up Toyota 4runners and I personally wasn’t a big fan when I drove one. It was in great condition and relatively new. Felt like it handled weird and the acceleration sucked and not as much storage room as I would expect. Not a bad car but given the high price I would pass on it.”
Porsches
“…my 911 after I totaled it.”
Plus, two drivers mentioned the Carrera GT.
“Carrera GT. 10/10 car and driving experience, 0/10 unforgiving clutch pedal and maintenance schedule.”
Mazda Miata
One commenter says he owned one, but “nothing beats a V8 rwd sedan or coupe…the Miata will never come close.”
Chevrolet Spark
“I’m sure they’re decent if you live in Kansas or Iowa and are on flat ground but if you have to go up even a measly hill they suck.”
Toyota Tacoma
We’ve pointed this out a few times already, but for taller folks, the Tacoma might not be the best in terms of interior comfort. “For me that’s every Tacoma prior to 2023, I just hated how sitting in it my legs were lain out as if the bottom of my body was sitting on flat ground and I just couldn’t get past that to want to daily drive one.”
Fiat Abarth 124 Spider
“I would never own another Abarth Spyder. Fun car, had my fill. Doesn’t mean if someone tossed me the keys I would say no.”
McLaren F1
“Car costs six figures per year to maintain, even if you literally never drive it.”
“Any Jeep, ever.”
“My work has a 2023 jeep compass and boy are those such big piles of [curse]. 10/10 awful car.”
“I would rather drive my 1st car, a 1978 girl repellent AMC Concorde than drive any jeep. Ever. What a terrible experience.”
