No one should be surprised that Ford had another great year for trucks. However, one Ford truck isn’t doing as well as others in the lineup. It’s the only model that isn’t leading its segment despite still benefiting from positive sales growth in 2025.

One Ford truck isn’t keeping up with rivals

There’s a Ford truck that proves being in the middle isn’t just right. It’s the Ford Ranger and compared to the Ford F-150, larger F-Series trucks, and the Maverick, it seems to be falling behind.

The F-150 and larger trucks sold 732,139 models in 2024. This figure increased to 828,832 in 2025, for a 8.3% year-over-year sales increase.

Then the Ford Maverick sold 131,142 trucks in 2024. This figure increased to 155,051 in 2025 for a sales increase of 18.2%.

According to The Drive, the Ford Ranger sold 46,205 units in 2024 and 70,690 units in 2025. This is still good, it’s a 53.6% sales increase. However, the Ranger is the only truck in the lineup that isn’t leading the class.

The Maverick crushed the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which only sold about 25,499 models. Also, the F-150 creams the Silverado as it only sold 422,685 trucks in 2025.

Meanwhile, the Toyota Tacoma is untouchable with 274,638 sales in 2025. The Chevrolet Colorado lands in second place with 107,896 sales.

The Ranger might not be a segment leader, as the Tacoma and Colorado are viewed as being more popular. Plus, they have a reputation for being much more reliable than the Ranger.

It doesn’t help that the 2025 Ranger had eight recalls for owners to deal with. Also, critics report that the Ranger doesn’t feel as modern or exciting as rivals.
