1 blown tire causes 4 semi-trucks to crash on Florida interstate
Did you know that there is a movie about a tire that rolls around killing people? It’s called ‘Rubber’ and it’s relevant, because tires are dangerous. A blowout just caused four semi-trucks to crash on I-75 in Florida.
One tire takes out four semi-trucks
Traffic was flowing smoothly along I-75 near mile marker 352 until a tire burst, causing four semi-trucks and other cars to collide.
According to Ocala News, a semi-truck was carrying a load of corn when it experienced a blowout. The impact sent the tractor-trailer across multiple lanes of traffic.
The trucker was identified as a 43-year-old man from Canada and was traveling southbound. Then the truck burst through the median and guardrail before flipping. It hit a Honda Civic and another semi-truck in the process.
All northbound lanes of traffic were blocked as the truck landed on top of the Civic. Then another trucker was slowing down to avoid hitting the wreck when he was rear ended by another truck driver.
One of the semi-truck’s saddle tanks ruptured, spilling 350 gallons of diesel in the median. Corn, glass, twisted metal, and other debris also littered the area. Firefighters were there in case flames erupted.
Police officers shared that each of the truckers only had minor injuries. But the Honda driver and his passenger were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
All lanes of traffic were closed for hours as multiple emergency crews and agencies worked to clear the scene. It’s unclear if a hazmat crew cleaned up the diesel, but a state warning point was issued.
