Uh oh, over 1.4 million Honda cars are under investigation. SUVs, minivans, and trucks have been reported to have an engine malfunction that can pose safety issues. It may have a manufacturing defect that could lead to catastrophic failure.

1.4 million Honda cars face engine failure concerns

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Acura and Honda cars could have a massive engine failure issue.

That’s why federal safety regulators are launching an investigation into 1.4 million vehicles. The following models could be at risk:

  • 2016 – 2020 Acura MDX
  • 2018 – 2020 Acura TLX
  • 2016 – 2020 Honda Pilot
  • 2017 – 2019 Honda Ridgeline
  • 2018 – 2020 Honda Odyssey

Each vehicle at risk uses the 3.5-liter V6 engine. The agency has received several reports of connecting rod bearing problems that could be related to a manufacturing defect. It may cause the engine to fail, increasing the risk of injuries and accidents.

It has been determined that these engine failures are outside the scope of a previous Honda Recall. In 2023, 250,000 vehicles were recalled to address a similar issue with the engine crankshaft.

The significant number of complaints is outside the scope of the previous recalls, warranting further investigation. That’s why the Office of Defects Investigation is looking into the scope and severity of the potential issue.

It seeks to fully assess potential safety-related risks. Based on what the investigation finds, there could be another recall. If that’s the case, Honda and Acura vehicles will have the engine problem repaired at no cost to owners.
