The Mitsubishi Mirage is a subcompact car model produced and sold by the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. The smallest and most affordable vehicle offered by Mitsubishi, the current Mirage replaced the 2002-2012 era Mitsubishi Colt and was sized and priced under the now discontinued Mitsubishi Lancer compact sedan.
The first generation Mitsubishi Mirage debuted in 1978 and was offered in a sedan and hatchback variant. Later on, with the debut of its second generation, the Mirage nameplate would also be attached to station wagon and panel van builds. However, the Mirage had a complicated naming history during its 1978-2003 run, with its hatchbacks sold as Colts and its sedans sold as Lancers. It gets more confusing with its many different rebadged models and nameplates offered overseas.
The sixth generation of Mitsubishi Mirage returned in 2012. The modern Mirage is prominently noted and derided as an extreme economy and budget car. Its main competitors include the Chevy Spark, the Kia Rio, the Hyundai Accent, and the Nissan Versa.
