The 2022 Nissan Frontier has revitalized Nissan’s mid-size truck. And that’s a good thing, because for nearly 20 years, it went without any major updates. But, for those who aren’t in the position to purchase a new pickup, is it worth it to buy a pre-owned Frontier? Over the years, there’s been a lot to love about this Nissan truck. And here are three reasons why you should consider buying a used Frontier.

A used Nissan Frontier can be affordable

In a world where new truck prices seem only to be going up and up, it is nice to find something that offers a legitimate value proposition. Although the used market is still acting a bit crazy, a used Frontier can be a budget-friendly truck that is ready to get the job done.

For around $15,000, you can find a truck with under 150,000 miles on the clock and that is decently equipped. It’s even possible to get a Frontier at this price point with the V6 engine. Which is probably more desirable than the base four-cylinder option.

The Frontier has 4WD

While this Nissan truck does come standard with rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive was an option. So if you are looking for an off-road pickup or you just want power going to all four wheels, you can get it. A Frontier with 4WD will likely be more expensive than with RWD. But, if you need that feature, there really is no way to get around that. According to AutoTrader, 4WD is ideal for winter conditions.

In addition to having 4WD, the Frontier has long been offered with an off-road package. Known as the PRO-4X, you can get a pickup that is ready to handle the road less traveled. And, with a thriving aftermarket community, you can likely find all the modifications that you need for your next adventure.

Parts availability

Because the Nissan Frontier has been around for so long, finding parts should not be too difficult. Especially if you are someone who prefers to do their own wrenching on your pickup. You can source parts from your local pick-and-pull or junkyard. Plus, online forums have likely encountered nearly every problem this truck has had.

Of course, not everyone likes to do automotive maintenance. If that is the case for you, a Nissan service center or third-party mechanic will be able to help. The major benefit of the Frontier, especially older ones, is its simplicity.

Should you buy a used Nissan Frontier?

If you need a mid-size truck but do not want to buy new, a Frontier is an ideal candidate. But ultimately, with trucks, what you buy often comes down to personal preference. Although the Frontier is not as capable as some other trucks in this class, it can still get the job done.

There have been some problematic years for this Nissan truck. So, be sure to check out which years are best to avoid before you buy. That way, you can avoid any potential headaches from an unreliable vehicle.
