At one time, the Nissan Frontier was the cheapest pickup truck you could buy. But it was still pretty powerful and could tow over 6,000 lbs. But the 2022 Nissan Frontier has undergone a transformation that really upped its value and price.

Is the 2022 Nissan Frontier worth buying?

Yes, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is an excellent truck to buy. It has interior and exterior upgrades that enhance its quality and capability. However, the Frontier is no longer a cheap work truck. The cheapest model is the S King Cab 4×2 model, and it starts at about $29,015.

Some critics see this as a win because the truck starts under $30,000. However, the 2021 Ford Ranger begins at about $24,820, the 2021 Chevy Colorado begins at around $25,200, and the 2021 Toyota Tacoma starts at around $26,400.

So the Nissan Frontier costs a few extra thousand more than its rivals now. But with all of the refinement it has, it could be worth the price.

How has the Frontier improved?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier has finally been revised to mark its third generation. But it still has a carryover engine. It comes with the same 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. This engine is from 2020. Previously the Frontier came with a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 261 hp.

When properly equipped, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,610 lbs. But rivals like the GMC Canyon and Jeep Gladiator can tow at least 7,650 lbs. This may make a difference depending on how heavy your camper or trailer is.

The Frontier received an updated look that’s very confident with square fenders and a blocky style. It got rid of the old V-shaped grille for a wider option with new LED headlights on the sides. Also, the front bumper is larger.

Critics are highly pleased with the updated interior. Nissan ditched cheap plastic materials for luxurious trim pieces and soft-touch materials. The Zero Gravity seats are compared to comfortable thrones.

Plus, the Nissan Frontier received modern tech updates, including a 7.0-inch digital cluster display, 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. You can opt for a wireless phone charger, heated steering wheel, Wi-Fi hotspot, and more.

How does the new Frontier perform?

The 2022 Nissan Frontier rides on a frame that dates back to 2000, but it’s received crucial suspension upgrades to provide a smoother ride. The longer wheelbase helps absorb impacts too.

The hydraulic cab mounts, extra cab insulation, reworked carpenter structure, and acoustic laminated glass prevent exterior noises from entering the cabin. The ride should be pretty quiet and relaxing.

Check out the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X model for enhanced capability. It includes Bilstein shocked, a Dana-sourced rear axle, 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, three steel skid plates, and an electronically locking rear differential.

The optional surround-view camera and dedicated off-road mode will help you navigate around obstacles and obstructions. Optional safety features include blind-spot warning, rear-cross traffic alert, and class-exclusive rear automatic emergency braking.
