With the popularity of the Ford Maverick, it is no surprise that Ford has big plans for its small truck. When Ford CEO Jim Farley presented second-quarter earnings, he also hinted at what’s in store for the Maverick. While specifics have not been revealed, various Mavericks have been spotted being tested. And some look fairly different from the standard 2022 Ford Maverick that we have now. For those shopping for a compact pickup, that should be an exciting prospect.

What’s in the future for the Ford Maverick?

Specific details for the future of the Ford Maverick have not yet been revealed, but, it is possible to do some speculation. One rumor that has been circulating is a plug-in hybrid Ford Maverick that features all-wheel drive. Currently, in order to get AWD, buyers must opt for the optional turbocharged engine. And that means sacrificing some efficiency.

If you want a small truck that values efficiency and still features AWD, a PHEV Maverick could be the one. Plus, you’d get the benefits of having some all-electric range. And that is something to be appreciated.

Will there be a Maverick ST?

Undoubtedly, a performance version of Ford’s small truck would be a hit. As vehicles like the Ford F-150 Raptor have proven, folks love a truck that can go fast. Ford has a range of different nameplates that it could use for a performance Maverick. And despite the United States losing the Fiesta and Focus ST, the ST name still lives on with SUVs such as the Escape and Explorer.

Maybe a fast Ford Maverick would use the Tremor name. But one thing is for sure, hopefully, a more powerful Maverick is on the way. Giving buyers the option to purchase a compact pickup with legitimate horsepower and torque.

When can you buy the 2023 Ford Maverick?

According to Ford Authority, orders for the 2023 Maverick should open up on August 2nd. That is a couple of weeks earlier than initially expected. So, if you want a new Maverick, you will be able to order it sooner than anticipated. Currently, you cannot order the 2022 Ford Maverick. And that is because demand has outdone supply. Because of that, Ford was forced to close out orders of its small truck.

If you really want a 2022 Ford Maverick, you might be able to find one at a dealership or on the second-hand market. But, if you do, expect to pay a markup, which ruins some of the value proposition. If you want to pay sticker price for this small truck, it might be best to wait until the 2023 model goes on sale.

Is the Maverick a good truck?

While the Maverick might not be a traditional truck, it still has a fair amount of utility. When properly equipped, the 2022 Ford Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs. And, Ford has even given it an available off-road package.
