Oops. Someone in GMC’s marketing department is having a bad day today. The company was just busted for editing a new GMC Sierra 1500 EV truck into a picture used by Rivian for its truck. The two images look the same, except the trucks are different. The GMC Sierra 1500 EV truck is all new, and this probably isn’t how GMC wants it to be remembered.

It would take a keen eye to spot the pic

So much of the image is familiar, that GMC was called out on for the copy. It is now deleted from GMC’s Instagram account. But, you can see the pics and a comparison at CarScoops. The images we see from manufacturers are their own, and these kinds of composites are generally used for design purposes only and don’t make it to public accounts. However, in this case, the leaves swirling behind the trucks are identical as is the background.

Is GMC making an electric Sierra?

GMC’s new Sierra EV truck was announced last week and it seems impressive. Not that long ago, horsepower figures of 300 or 400 horsepower seemed massive. But, EVs are trumping those figures on the regular. For example, the GMC Hummer EV has 1,000 horsepower, a number that was reserved for $1 million supercars like Bugattis. Now, the Sierra EV will pack 754 horsepower, and an astonishing 785 lb-ft of torque, just like the upcoming Silverado EV truck.

The truck should make enough twist, GMC says, to get this truck to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds. Beyond that, the truck will also be able to do a lot of truck stuff, like haul and tow. Like the regular Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 trucks, the new Sierra EV is simply GMC’s more luxurious version of Chevy’s electric truck.

How much is the GMC electric truck?

The GMC Sierra Denali Edition 1 will cost $107,000, and the company will build less than 10,000 Edition 1 trucks. However, that doesn’t mean that GMC won’t make more trucks. For now, you can reserve a truck with a refundable $100 reservation. The company says that it will make versions of the truck that cost between $50,000 and $80,000, as well. The basic WT version of the Chevy Silverado EV starts at around $40,000. But, within just minutes of the order banks opening for the new truck, GMC sold out.
