GMC has finally pulled the tarp off its highly anticipated all-electric 2025 Sierra EV truck and reservations are now open. We won’t see it until 2024, but we know the truck will have 754 horsepower, a 400-mile range, and it will cost $107,000. Sure, those are some big numbers that significantly elevate this truck over its Chevy Silverado EV stablemate, and even in some cases its GMC Hummer EV Truck counterpart. So what else can we expect from the new 2024 GMC Sierra EV?

When can I order a Sierra GMC EV truck?

GMC opened reservations for the new Sierra EV on Oct. 20, 2022. But make sure that you’ll have the $107,000 the company is asking for when your truck is delivered in early 2024. Of course, other versions will be announced, and they will start at $50,000, or about $10,000 more than the base Chevy Silverado EV. It will, at launch, only come in the Denali Edition 1 trim, which means that it’s a luxury four-door truck with a 5’11’ bed.

Well, sort of. It has a new midgate that allows the bed to extend into the cabin, like the old Chevy Avalanche truck.

The first thing you’ll notice on the new 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is a reinterpretation of the GMC grille that will signify GMC’s new EV trucks. Like the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV truck, the GMC Sierra EV gets the Ultium treatment, which means both trucks ride on the new electric platform. However, with the GMC, the company is making more of the fact that the Ultium platform makes up the frame of the truck and integrates into the body. Since its an EV, you also get a frunk that GMC is calling the eTruck, which has drain holes.

The Sierra EV is a truck designed to do truck stuff

Towing are hauling are core to a pickup truck’s mission. In the Sierra EV Denali’s case, it can tow up to 9,500 pounds, and up to 1,300 pounds of payload. It comes standard with a trailering package, which infers that the trailering package will be optional on lesser trim levels. It also gets GMC’s new MultiPro Tailgate, which flips down and adds a convenient step, or flops in other directions to make a table, or a pass through to hold long objects.

The new GMC Hummer EV, famously, gets the Crab Walk, or four wheel steering. It can drive it nearly perpendicular to a road, and the Sierra Denali will get it, too. Like the Chevy, and the Ford F-150 Lightning, the GMC can turn itself into a four-wheel generator, except it has 10 outlets that offer a total of 10.2kW of power. And, of course, it has fast charging ability.

It also offers several modes for driving, including a tow/haul mode, an off-road and a Max Power mode. Max Power is likely this truck’s version of the Watts to Freedom (or WtF) mode on the Hummer. It also will get one-pedal driving ability, and a variable regen on demand braking system to charge the battery with the brakes.

The new truck is a Denali, so expect a lot of luxury.

The new truck will launch as the 2024 Sierra EV Denali Edition 1. As any GMC fan knows, Denali means that it will be nicely appointed. The images that GMC shared certainly show a luxury truck. Inside, Denali trucks are more like luxury cocoons compared to their plebian work truck siblings. Inside the 2024 Sierra Denali EV Denali Edition 1 is a giant 16.8-inch touchscreen, accentuated by a dash-length air conditioning vent, like in a Tesla. It also gets a color head-up display and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving software.

The Denali version gets a panoramic sunroof, open-pore wood, and a unique Sierra Denali EV stitching on the seats. It also gets a Bose stereo.
