Audi makes vehicles with style and sophistication. Its cars and SUVs have sleek curb appeal, with taut sheetmetal and LED lighting. And the company’s legendary Quattro all-wheel drive offers tenacious traction.

Today, with the EV age upon us, Audi offers a line of fully electric models called e-tron. Displaying the brand’s typical traits—but adding high-tech electric powertrains—these EVs are quiet, quick, and versatile. But which one is the most affordable? Let’s find out.

2024 Audi Q4 e-tron: the company’s most affordable EV

For 2024, the Audi e-tron line gives consumers plenty of options. The GT e-tron (from $107,995) has concept car looks and supercar performance. For the finest in sport and utility, the SQ8 e-tron (from $90,995) mixes racy dynamics and an SUV bodystyle. And with an all-around design and lower cost of entry, the Q4 e-tron (from $50,995) offers versatility at a reasonable price.

For 2024, Audi offers the Q4 e-tron in the following trims (price including destination):

• Premium 40: $50,995

• Premium Plus 40: $55,695

• Premium 50: $56,395

• Sportback Premium 50: $59,395

• Premium Plus 50: $61,095

• Prestige 50: $63,395

• Sportback Premium Plus 50: $64,095

• Sportback Prestige 50: $66,395

40-series Q4 e-trons use a single-motor, rear-wheel drive layout. That’s good for 201 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque. A 76.6 kWh (net) Li-ion battery provides an EPA-estimated 265 miles of range. And with DC fast charging, the battery goes from 5 percent to 80 percent in only 36 minutes.

Moving up to 50-series models brings a dual-motor, all-wheel drive configuration. Power increases to 295 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque. That decreases range to 236 miles for the standard bodystyle, and 242 miles for the Sportback. The same Li-ion battery provides juice, and DC fast charging takes an identical 36 minutes.

The standard Q4 e-tron has Audi’s typical good looks. LED headlamps, a mesh grille, and styled vents give it a high-tech, sporty feel. Short overhangs and balanced proportions add athletic flair.

For coupe-like style, the Q4 e-tron Sportback adds a sloping roofline and chiseled fenders. Drivers seeking an SUV with coupe look may find the Sportback the better option. It’s a chic ride.

Interior-wise, the Q4 e-tron shows what Audi does best: mix modern design, high-quality materials, and the latest tech. Black surfaces contrast with metal highlights, creating a sophisticated ambiance. A digital gauge display offers high-tech function. And bolstered front seats provide comfort and support.

Elevated trims, like the Premium Plus 50, add next-level technology. Examples include the LED interior lighting plus package, Audi Virtual Cockpit plus, and Audi MMI navigation plus.

And the top-of-the-line Q4 e-tron 50 Prestige is even better. Matrix design LED headlights add a futuristic feel. Animation for headlights and taillights looks cool at night. And an augmented reality head-up display lets drivers stay focused on the road.

2024 Audi Q4 e-tron: who should buy it?

The Audi Q4 e-tron is a solid pick for two types of drivers: those looking for an agile EV with Quattro AWD and an appealing design, or, people buying a luxury EV who want to stick to a budget. Here’s why.

Today’s SUVs can be large, ponderous vehicles. Add in a heavy electric powertrain, and you’ve got a recipe for boring dynamics. But the compact Q4 e-tron has a manageable size, making it a fun ride on errand runs and ski trips alike. There’s still seating for five and ample cargo space. And with available Quattro all-wheel drive, all-weather handling is excellent.

With vehicle prices climbing higher and higher, many buyers may be priced out of luxury EVs. But with its reasonable MSRP, the Q4 e-tron provides Audi traits at an affordable price.

While the Premium 40 is the cheapest Q4 e-tron, we’d go for the Premium 50 trim and its Quattro AWD. It offers high-end performance, tech, and luxury, without an astronomical price tag. It’s the classic Audi experience in electric form.

The 2024 Audi Q4 e-tron is a stylish, refined EV. With an all-electric powertrain, it offers instant torque and quick acceleration. And with solid range, it makes it easier to switch from a gas-powered vehicle. The Q4 e-tron has Audi’s usual technology and performance yet at an obtainable MSRP for buyers on a budget. It’s a superb electric vehicle, no matter the price.
