We have a significant surprise involving the Ford F-150 and one of its unexpected competitors today. While it’s easy to consider the 2023 Ford F-150 the king of sales with the biggest increases year over year, another full-size truck experienced a higher percentage of growth.

Surprise, the full-size truck with the largest increase in sales year over year is actually the 2023 Nissan Titan. You wouldn’t expect this dying truck to have anything to brag about, but it has a few benefits to consider on its way out.

The Nissan Titan is officially being discontinued, so perhaps people are finding good deals as dealerships attempt to move them off the lot.

Anyway, last year, during the third quarter, the Titan moved 1,275 units. In 2023, the Titan moved 4,875 models, representing a 208.% increase.

Also, during the year to date in 2022, the Titan sold 12,487 trucks, and it’s moved 15.407 models during the same time period this year. That’s a 23.4% increase.

During the third quarter of 2022, the Ford F-150 moved 167,962 trucks. During the third quarter of 2023, the F-150 sold 190,477 models for a 13.4% increase.

The F-150 sold 467,307 models year-to-date in 2022 and 573,370 units so far this year. That’s a 22.7% increase. However, these figures are for the F-Series lineup, not just the F-150. The Titan increased its sales volume on its own.

While the F-150 is still the trucking leader, the 2023 Nissan Titan is making a surprising boom on its way out to pasture.

Is the Ford F-150 better than the Nissan Titan?

The 2023 Ford F-150 and 2023 Nissan Titan both have unique advantages to consider. For example, the Titan isn’t as wide or long as the F-150, making it easier to park and maneuver in tight city areas.

But the 2023 Titan can only tow up to 9,323 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,67 lbs. The 2023 F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs and can carry a payload of up to 3,315 lbs.

The Titan has a standard 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. The 2023 F-150 has a standard 3.3-liter V6 engine with 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque.

But the Titan only has one engine, while the F-150 has eight different powertrains to consider, including a hybrid and an electric option.

The Titan is known for having a smooth ride over the pavement with comfortable front seats. But the F-150 has a quieter interior at highway speeds.

Is the Titan more reliable than the F-150?

No, the 2023 Nissan Titan isn’t more reliable than the 2023 Ford F-150, but they come pretty close to tying. The F-150 has a reliability score of 86 out of 100 from J.D.Power, while the Titan earned an 85.

This means that both trucks have an above-average score. Anything between 81 and 90 is above average, while scores between 91 and 100 are best.

The average Titan model is expected to make it to 250,000 miles, but it’s not uncommon for some models to reach 300,000 miles with regular maintenance and proper care.

You can expect an average F-150 truck to reach 200,000 miles, but some models also make it past 300,000 miles.

It might be a good time to save with a Titan if you’re looking for a reliable option. However, stay tuned because whatever is replacing it could debut soon.
