There hasn’t been much competition among mid-size rucks during the past few years. Every option battled for second place against the Toyota Tacoma. However, the Tacoma just gave the Ford Ranger Raptor one massive advantage.

The Ford Ranger Raptor is cheaper than the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

You can get started with a 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor for $57,065, including the $1,595 destination fee.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro starts at $66,890, including the $1,495 destination fee. So, the Ranger Raptor costs $9,825 less, giving it one massive advantage.

The Ford Ranger was discontinued in America back in 2011 while the next generation launched in foreign markets. Then it didn’t see any significant changes for years but returned in 2019.

It didn’t impact Tacoma sales because it lost a bit of its reputation and didn’t provide an off-roading trim. Despite having a stout towing capacity and stellar reliability ratings, it couldn’t keep up.

Now the playing field is leveled because the Ranger Raptor is extremely cable and it’s more affordable. Plus it has more horsepower.

The Ranger Raptor uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Tacoma TRD Pro has a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with a battery pack and an electric motor to generate 325 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

But due the the Tacoma’s hybrid power it’s still in the race. It should have instant torque to help it fly off the line.

The Ranger Raptor has a ground clearance of 10.7 inches and the TRD Pro has an 11.0-inch ground clearance. Both trucks ride on 33-inch tires.

Also, they both have electronically locking differentials and uniquely tuned Fox shocks. While the Ranger Raptor has bucket seats, the Tacoma TRD Pro has isodynamic seats for more stability.

The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro are both extremely capable off-roading trucks. However, for the first time, the Ford Ranger has a real chance to take the Tacoma out.
