We’re looking at the Nissan Frontier and the Nissan Titan today because these trucks have a lot in common. Typically, it’s hard to ignore the DNA shared between brothers, and the 2023 Nissan Frontier and Nissan Titan are no exception. They both have one issue in common.

The 2023 Nissan Frontier and Nissan Titan both have heavy steering

While the 2023 Nissan Frontier and 2023 Nissan Titan are totally different trucks in the lineup, they both struggle with the same issue. The trucks have really heavy steering at low speeds, which impacts the driving experience.

Driving at speeds under 20 mph, parking, and reversing may take some muscle until you get used to the extra effort maneuvering requires. It’s a little odd for the Nissan trucks to be so cumbersome.

Maneuverability is hindered, especially while off-roading. The Frontier has a turning radius between 21.65 to 23.88 feet, which is a bit wide, and the Titan swings around at 24 feet.

Rivals like the Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, GMC Sierra 1500, and Ford F-150 are easier to park and maneuver in tight areas.

Nissan trucks have hydraulic steering, while more modern competitors use electronically assisted steering. Hydraulic steering feels a bit heavier, and some people may actually prefer it.

It also requires you to change the power steering fluid more often.

Nissan Frontier vs. Nissan Titan: Which truck is better?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier and the 2023 Nissan Titan are in different classes, so they don’t exactly stack up apples to apples. The Frontier is a mid-size truck that’s smaller and more fuel efficient. The Titan is a full-size, light-duty truck that can tow more.

The 2023 Frontier has a standard 3.8-iter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.3 seconds. It gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway.

When properly equipped, the Frontier can tow up to 6,720 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,697 lbs. Rivals like the Jeep Gladiator can tow up to 7,7000 lbs.

The 2023 Titan has a standard 5.6-liter V8 engine with 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. It reaches 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds. It gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway.

When properly equipped, the Titan can tow up to 9,320 lbs and can carry a payload of up to 1,697 lbs. The Ford F-150 can tow up to 14,000 lbs.

The Frontier has a smoother ride quality and more modern tech. The Titan hasn’t been seriously updated since 2016, but the Frontier was redesigned in 2022. However, the Titan provides more passenger and cargo space.

Is the Frontier smaller than the Titan?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier is slightly smaller than the 2023 Nissan Titan. The Frontier is up to 224.1 inches long, and the Titan is 228.2 inches long. The Frontier has a five and a six-foot bed available, and the Titan has a 5.5 or 6.5-foot bed.

Also, the Frontier is 74.7 inches wide, and the Titan is 80.7 inches wide. This allows the Frontier to be a little more agile and easier to maneuver.

Adults will be happier in the rear seat of the Titan, where more leg space can be found. Also, the Titan offers adjustment controls.

While the Frontier makes sense as the more modern and comfortable option, the Titan has more space for taller passengers and can tow more. However, both trucks have dated hydraulic steering.

The Frontier could receive a steering update with its midcycle refresh, but the Titan will most likely be discontinued. Stay tuned for updates about both of these Nissan trucks.
