The Ford Maverick truck is a sales hit for Ford. Even while its losing sales of some of its big trucks, thanks to supply chain issues, Mavericks are still selling. Ford recently reported its May sales data and the company sold 6,089 Maverick trucks in May. Overall, Ford said, more than 97% of Maverick sales were from previously-placed orders, while the rest joined the Maverick truck club by buying their truck off the lot because it’s cheap, capable, and awesome.

Mavericks are now responsible for 10% of Ford truck sales

Mavericks are hot-selling trucks and more than 6,000 people joined the Maverick truck club in May, according to Ford.

According to Ford’s new sales report, the company sold 74,595 trucks in May of 2022. Year-to-date, Ford has sold 34,871 Mavericks. That’s more than 10% of the brand’s overall truck sales for this one vehicle.  It’s easy to see why it’s popular. The Maverick has good, if not great, fuel mileage at more than 40 in the city. It is the cheapest American vehicle you can now buy, as well as the cheapest Hybrid. It can be optioned to tow up to 4,000 pounds. Maverick seats five and has payload capacity in the bed for 1,500 pounds of stuff.

Interestingly, the company also reported selling seven new GTs. The GT is the company’s supercar. Only about 1,300 were produced and production ended in December of the $500,000 car. Ford sold 49,454 F-150s in May, which is about 3,000 more full-sized trucks than the company sold in May of 2021. The Maverick still outsells the Ford Ranger mid-sized truck.

How much is the new Ford Maverick?

The base Maverick starts at $19,995.

The base Ford Maverick for 2022 is $19,995. That makes it not only the least-expensive truck for sale in America but the least expensive new vehicle you can buy from an American manufacturer. The base truck is well-optioned, but it’s basic. Essentially, you get A/C and a radio, power windows and a touchscreen, as well as the 2.5-liter hybrid motor. From there you can option out the Maverick to $35,000 with the FX4 off-road package, towing packages, leather-trimmed seats, and a lot more.

It is beating the similar Hyundai Santa Cruz, too, in sales. But more competition is likely on the way.

Most people join the Maverick truck club by ordering their truck online

Ford said that 97% of Maverick deliveries were from pre-orders of the truck. That says a few things about Mavericks and their buyers. Since the trucks only sit on lots for about five days, that means that supply is short at local dealers. Also, since the Maverick is so customizable in XL, XLT, and Lariat trims, most buyers don’t want to pick from the selection at the local dealer and are heading to use Ford’s online ordering system.

Of course, there really is a Maverick Truck Club online

Every truck, car and SUV seems to have a club where the super fans go for more information. Even though the Maverick is still a relatively new vehicle, there is already a Maverick Truck Club online. Forums like the Maverick Truck Club can sometimes be useful sources of information and a good source for custom ideas. The Maverick Truck Club has several owner reviews and stories of owners’ experiences with their Maverick trucks.
