One of the most anticipated new trucks of 2022 is, of course, the compact Ford Maverick. It’s a small, four-door, truck that has decent towing ability and can hold up to 4,000 pounds of payload. They can go off road. They can get 40 miles-per-gallon. They can have leather. They can be $19,999. But not all at the same time.

It depends on how you build it.

Mavericks are hot and they are only on a dealer’s lot for four days before they’re sold. That’s an incredibly short amount of time, and that means that even if you find one you like on a lot, it could be gone before you know it.

So, use the builder at shop.ford.com. to figure out which version you want and what options you want. The builder starts with the trim levels, so we’ll start there.

How to build a Ford Maverick XL

The 2022 Ford Maverick XL is a basic compact pickup truck. Here it has soil loaded into its bed.

The XL, on the far left, is the least expensive version of the Maverick. It has two engine options, the fuel efficient 2.5 liter hybrid, or the powerful 2-liter EcoBoost engine. Pick you engine with the slider on the page and you’ll notice the price goes from $19,995 to $21,080.

Once you pick the engine, you can pick your color and equipment groups, packages, and select from some limited exterior and interior options. With the base engine, about the only major upgrade you can pick is the Ford Co-Pilot 360 driver assistance system. Other than that, the other options on the XL are straightforward.

How to build a Ford Maverick XLT

The Ford Maverick XLT is the mid-level version of the Maverick.

The XLT is the mid-level trim of the Maverick and it starts at $22,360. The builder lets you pick an engine, then you get to pick paint wheels, tires, and more exterior and interior goodies than the XL offers. But with the XLT you can add all wheel drive, for $3,305, a 4,000-pound tow package for $745, the FX4 off-road package for $800 and an XLT Luxury package for $2,500. And the Co-Pilot.

If you pick the FX4 package, you’ll need to get the 2-liter EcoBoost engine. If you select the tow package, you’ll need the AWD and the 2-liter as well. It’s fun to play around and see what wheels and other options you can pack into the XLT.

The Lariat package is the most luxurious and capable of the Mavericks. It starts at $25,860. The Lariat includes the 500A Equipment Group, which means that you get LED headlights, a larger instrument cluster screen, a power drivers seat, power sliding rear window, and some other goodies like the dual-zone temperature control.

You can add all of the goodies that you can to the XLT, but then you can also add one special package the XLT doesn’t get: Lariat Luxury Package. The luxury package adds an eight—inch screen, enhanced voice recognition communications, upgraded wound system with eight speakers, a heated steering wheel, and whole lot more.
