The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E is more affordable than it used to be, but it’s still a tough pill for die-hard Mustang fans. Still, the shared pony badge is easier to deal with when you consider how swift the all-electric Mustang Mach-E GT is in a sprint to 60 mph. So, does the Mach-E GT stack up against the V8-powered 2023 Ford Mustang GT?

Is the Mach-E GT faster than a Mustang GT?

Ford says the hulking 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition is faster than the gas-powered Mustang GT with its quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the range-topping Mach-E GT and its launch-happy eAWD will keep pace with the current king of pony car hill, the Mustang Mach 1.

In fact, if drivers launch the Mach-E model just right, the only factory gas-powered Ford Mustangs that will definitively outrun the electric SUV are the now-discontinued S550 and S197 Shelby GT500s. Incredibly, the 10-year-old S197 GT500 will hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds on its way to an 11.8-second quarter mile, speeds that embarrass bleeding-edge sports cars today.

How fast is the Ford Mustang Mach-E?

The range-topping 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition can hit 60 mph in around 3.8 seconds. As impressive as that explosive speed is, the ability to take four bewildered and surprised passengers along for stoplight-to-stoplight sprints in a 480-horsepower brute is nothing short of hilarious.

How fast is the Ford Mustang GT?

While the newest 2023 and 2022 Ford Mustang GTs lose 10 horsepower compared to earlier Coyote-powered models, they’re still properly quick. A new Mustang GT can hit 60 mph in around 4.0 seconds with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Times will likely suffer with the more joyous six-speed manual transmission.

However, the 470-horsepower Mustang GT will catch the Mach-E in the quarter mile. The gas-powered pony car will cross the line in around 12.6 seconds, 0.1 quicker than the heavy EV SUV.

What is the fastest Mustang off the lot in 2023?

The fastest gas-powered Ford Mustang in the 2023 lineup is the Mach 1. However, drivers will have to opt for the 10-speed automatic transmission to get the most speed out of the track star. Specifically, the automatic-equipped Mach 1 will hit 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, per Hagerty

Moreover, while the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition might be able to keep pace with the Mach 1 in a straight line, it wouldn’t stand a chance around any twisties. The Mach 1 enjoys Shelby hand-me-downs, like the GT350’s subframe and bushings.
