Ford and muscle car fans should rejoice; the Blue Oval has elected not to scrap the manual transmission for the 2024 Ford Mustang. Leaked photos suggest the next-generation Mustang, codenamed S650, will get a bit of a facelift but won’t ditch the V8 or the three-pedal setup. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Mustang keeping a manual transmission.

Will there be a 2024 Ford Mustang?

Ford confirmed that the next generation of the Ford Mustang, the S650, is coming. The 2024 and beyond model year S650s replace the outgoing S550 generation, which Ford introduced in 2015. The S550 was a far cry from the previous S197, with a complete redesign, higher horsepower numbers, independent rear suspension, and a turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost option. Ford fans expect that the S650 will carry many of the characteristics that the Blue Oval instilled in the S550.

Will the 2024 Ford Mustang have a manual transmission?

The 2024 Ford Mustang will have an optional manual transmission. However, a Ford executive commented that the manual transmission in the Mustang isn’t long for this world. Still, most enthusiasts expect the pony car to retain a three-pedal stick shift for at least the first iterations of the seventh generation Mustang.

Will the manual Mustang be electric?

A Ford official said that the venerable Mustang would continue to offer a V8 engine and perhaps even an electric variation. Whether that means a hybrid electric Mustang or a fully-electric pony car is still up in the air. The automotive industry is electrifying, and the Ford Mustang will likely follow. Don’t fret, purists; the pony car will offer a V8 and a manual, at least for now.

What will be different about the upcoming pony car?

Spy photos already confirmed that the 2024 Ford Mustang’s front fascia is getting a slight refresh. It appears as though the somewhat-rounded eyes of the pony car will give way to another headlight squint, not unlike the first S550 cars. In addition to the angrier headlights, the Mustang looks like it’s sporting larger vents up front.

How much will the 2024 Ford Mustang cost?

The 2024 Ford Mustang will likely start at $30,000. According to Car and Driver, the pony car will also offer a GT version, like the S550 GT, and that car will likely pack a V8 engine. The S650 is also likely to carry over the accomplished 5.0L Coyote platform rather than getting its own new V8. Still, consumers should expect to pay $40,000 and up for their V8-powered 2024 Ford Mustang GT.

When can you buy a new Ford Mustang?

Ford will unveil the specifications, looks, and pricing of the 2024 Ford Mustang soon. Furthermore, fans who want to place their orders for a 2024 model will have to wait until 2023 to do so. Although weighing the prospect of a hybrid-electric, fully-electric, or Shelby performance variant of the S650, they’ll be glad they were patient.
