The 2023 Honda Passport offers a solid blend of capability, comfort, and convenience. With its athletic build, punchy V6 engine, and standard all-wheel drive, this midsize SUV provides an exciting driving experience for a family hauler. The upscale interior boasts plenty of room for five passengers. And if you’re looking to take this crossover’s style up a notch, check out the Honda Performance Development (HPD) Bronze and Black Packages. But are these upgrades worth nearly $3,000? Here’s what the 2023 Honda Passport HPD packages offer.

What are Honda HPD packages?

HPD is a U.S.-based automotive racing and development group founded in 1993. It advances Honda’s motorsports activities and develops performance parts for the automaker’s lineup, ranging from family sedans to minivans. HPD parts are available through aftermarket retail outlets, but some models also offer factory HPD packages.

Unlike Toyota TRD and Nissan NISMO models that sport performance enhancements, HPD packages for Honda’s mass-produced passenger cars add appearance upgrades. Though HPD packages don’t enhance performance, these components give the vehicle a more aggressive stance.

For instance, the 2023 Honda Passport offers two HPD accessory packages for all three trim levels. The HPD Bronze Package includes 20- or 18-inch bronze-colored alloy wheels, depending on the trim level, a lower door trim, HPD-branded decals, and fender flares. Meanwhile, the HPD Black Package adds 20- or 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels, black wheel lug nuts, matching lower door trim, HPD decals, and fender flares. Each HPD package costs $2,900.

Are the Honda Passport HPD packages worth nearly $3,000?

Buying an HPD package for the 2023 Honda Passport costs nearly $3,000. That’s on top of the $41,100 starting price for the EX-L base model, $43,600 for the TrailSport trim, or $46,560 for the range-topping Elite. That’s a considerable chunk of change for aesthetic upgrades, but they could be worthwhile if you want your Honda SUV to stand out from the crowd.

HPD packages are attractive upgrades. However, they’re strictly cosmetic on the Passport — they don’t offer any performance advantages.

So, if you want an aesthetic upgrade that will give your Honda Passport a unique look, HPD packages could be worth considering. However, if you’re after performance upgrades, invest in other modifications.

What other models offer these packages?

Aside from the Passport, most other Honda models offer HPD packages.

For example, the 2024 Pilot SUV has four: HPD Black, HPD+ Black, HPD Bronze, and HPD+ Bronze. They range from $2,000 to $2,950. For instance, the $2,000 HPD Bronze Package provides lower door trim, HPD 18-inch matte bronze-finish alloy wheels, and a tire pressure monitoring system assembly. And the $2,950 HPD+ Black Package boasts fender flares, lower door trim, a gloss black rear HPD emblem, a black HPD side decal, HPD 18-inch matte black-finish alloy wheels, a black wheel lug nut set, and a tire pressure monitoring system assembly.

In addition, the 2023 Ridgeline midsize truck has HPD Black and Bronze Packages for $2,900 each. The Black Package comes with a unique HPD grille, an HPD emblem, fender flares, 18-inch black alloy wheels, and decals along the bed. They’re available on the Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition trims.

The 2024 CR-V’s $1,745 HPD Package has a tailgate spoiler, HPD emblem, HPD decals, front lower bumper trim, lower door trim accents, and fender flares. This option is available for the LX, EX, Sport Hybrid, EX-L, Sport-L Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid trims.

Also, HPD accessories are available for the 2024 Civic Sedan. Honda lists this motorsports-inspired package for $1,452. It includes front, side, and rear underbody spoilers, a decklid spoiler, and an HPD emblem. Meanwhile, the HPD Package for the 2024 Civic Hatchback costs $799. It includes an HPD emblem, an underbody spoiler, and a tailgate spoiler. Customers can also purchase these accessories separately. Pricing is $43 for the black HPD emblem, $357 for the underbody spoiler, and $399 for the tailgate spoiler.

Even the 2024 Accord gets a $2,075 HPD Styling Package. It has underbody front, rear, and side spoilers, a black decklid spoiler, a door mirror cover, and an HPD emblem. This package is available for LX, EX, EX-L Hybrid, and Touring Hybrid trims.

Honda offers HPD packages for other models, too. You can find them in the “Packages” step when building a vehicle using Honda’s online configurator. Note that not all trims are available with these packages.
